Timescale and Google Cloud Service SQL

Hi, i’m quite new to timescale i was looking for a way to have a TimescaleDB in the Google Cloud (EU-West region). I saw that it is possible to use some kind of managed timescale service, but my ideal goal would be that i use the google cloud sql service (Cloud SQL overview  |  Cloud SQL Documentation  |  Google Cloud) in which i can create a postgresql instance.

Has anybody then tried to “install” the timescale extension or is it even possible?

Thank you in advance for your responses

@KaykoF have you managed to do it in google cloud? Curious i am trying to do the similar

The Timescaledb license does not allow them to run inside the cloud sql.

The managed service allows you to setup it automatically on Google Cloud.

Alternatively, you can provide a new machine, setup linux, install postgresql and timescaledb extension by yourself.

Check the Timescale License for more details.

Hi @jonatasdp,

Thanks for your comment. Just to confirm, if we have a CloudSQL is it not possible to install the timescaledb extension on it?

Best,

In reality, any cloud competitor can offer the open source version with the Apache license that is limited to features until version 1.5. Now, it represents the features introduced 5+ years ago.
