At Timescale, we empower businesses with real-time insights from their data, allowing them to make faster decisions and optimize operations. We are creating a movement to unblock developers who are building the future. Timescale is a product-led growth organization driven by transparent leaders and a globally diverse, remote-first team that is proudly building a modern PostgreSQL cloud platform.
We're looking for experienced engineers to help us build and maintain the platform for our managed TimescaleDB cloud services. You will work with a close-knit team, building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our platform. Your work will be instrumental in developing our Kubernetes-based clusters and infrastructure. This role is perfect if you enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges and automating workflows.
This is a remote and a full-time position.
What you will be responsible for:
You will interact with the Kubernetes API and codebase to build controllers, operators, and applications that power our platform.
Work closely with and further develop our infrastructure tooling to ensure the health, stability, and maintainability of our clusters.
Get a lot of hands-on experience debugging and optimizing TimescaleDB and Postgres workloads.
Collaborate with software engineering teams to ensure platform scalability and performance.
Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
You’d be a great fit if you have:
5+ years of experience in platform engineering
Experience programming in the Kubernetes ecosystem or using the Kubernetes API (operators, controllers, and custom CRDs)
Strong programming skills (we mostly use Go)
Extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS preferred)
Experience designing, understanding, and debugging complex distributed systems
Deep knowledge of Linux, container environments, bash, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi)
Experience deploying, operating, and using major production-level databases. Bonus points for PostgreSQL and/or TimescaleDB!
Experience deploying and maintaining Kubernetes clusters at scale. Knowledge of Kubernetes cluster orchestration tools like kops or kubeadm is a plus
Experience with CNI and CSI interfaces. Have an understanding of their purpose and solid experience with at least one CNI and CSI plugin - deploying, tuning, troubleshooting.
A good understanding of feature sets of different Kubernetes versions, be well informed about new features.
Understand different solutions for monitoring kubernetes health and troubleshooting, improving control plane and worker node performance.
Have experience tuning kubernetes components such as API server, kubelet, scheduler, kube-proxy, controller manager, for improving performance, security hardening and improvement of reliability.
Experience of managing self hosted kubernetes clusters (not only EKS, AKS or GKE) is a plus.
You might not be a great fit if:
You aren't comfortable with a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly.
You prefer a highly structured role with clearly defined tasks and responsibilities.
You're not a self-starter who thrives on taking initiative and ownership.
Our Commitment:
We will respond to all applicants
We strive to review all applications fairly, without bias, and shortlist based on relevant skills and experience.
All active candidates will be informed of what is happening next in the process.
